What Sets the ILUMA Prime Apart From the Standard ILUMA
If you have used an ILUMA Standard, the Prime will feel familiar the moment you pick it up. Same holder size, same button, same session. The difference is in the hand. The aluminum shell feels cooler and more solid, and the wrap around the pocket charger gives it the feel of a small leather case rather than a plastic gadget.
The pocket charger is also slimmer than the Standard's. It measures 117.2 x 44.7 x 22.2 mm, against 121.5 x 47 x 23.4 mm for the Standard, but it weighs more at 141 g because of the metal body. For many buyers, that weight is part of the appeal. It sits in a jacket pocket like a card holder.
Under the shell, the Prime uses the same Smartcore Induction System as every ILUMA. The stick is heated from the inside by a metal element built into each TEREA stick, so there is no heating blade in the holder. That means nothing to scrape clean and no blade to break, a known weak point on older IQOS models.

This is the comparison most buyers want, so here is a straight answer. The ILUMA i Prime is the newer generation. It adds a touchscreen, Pause Mode, FlexPuff and FlexBattery, and it allows three uses in a row instead of two. In our store, the i Prime currently starts at AED 350, which is slightly less than the ILUMA Prime at AED 365.

So why would anyone still buy the original Prime? There are three good reasons. Some people prefer a device without a screen and like the simple one-button feel. Some want a specific Prime limited edition finish, like Neon or Oasis. And some already own an ILUMA Prime and want a matching spare. If none of those apply to you, the IQOS ILUMA i Prime is the better buy for the money. If price matters most, the ILUMA Standard gives you the same heating and sessions from AED 270.
How to Use Your IQOS ILUMA Prime
- Charge the pocket charger fully with the USB-C cable before first use. This takes around 2 hours 15 minutes.
- Insert a TEREA stick into the top of the holder until it stops at the line on the filter.
- The device starts heating on its own. You can also press the button on the holder.
- Wait for the vibration and the light to settle, then start drawing.
- The session ends after about 6 minutes or 14 puffs. The holder vibrates to let you know it is almost over.
- Pull the stick straight out and put the holder back in the pocket charger to recharge.
A small tip from our team: keep the device out of a parked car in summer. UAE cabin temperatures can go well past what lithium batteries like, and heat is one of the quickest ways to shorten battery life.
Buying an ILUMA Prime in the UAE: What to Check
Now that the ILUMA i Prime has replaced it as the newest model, ILUMA Prime stock and prices vary a lot between UAE sellers. Here is what we suggest you check, whoever you buy from.
Sealed box. A new ILUMA Prime should arrive factory sealed. Every device we sell is sealed stock. Check the seal before you open it, and message us right away if anything looks off.
TEREA sticks, not HEETS. The ILUMA Prime only works with TEREA. HEETS have no internal heating element, so they will not heat in an ILUMA and IQOS advises against using them. You can browse every flavor in our TEREA flavors collection.
Payment terms. We prefer cash on delivery. Card and wallet payments carry a 5% government tax at checkout, and bank transfer has no extra charge.
